Frequently asked questions about transit trade

Q01What is transit trade?

It is the purchase of goods from a foreign country and their sale to a third country without importing them into Türkiye. TEMİR buys the goods from the supplier in its own name and sells them to the buyer in its own name; the goods are shipped directly from the supplier's country to the buyer's country.

Q02Do the goods ever come to Türkiye?

In most transactions they do not. Where the route requires it, bonded warehouses or free zones in Türkiye can be used as an intermediate stop; even then, the goods are not imported into Türkiye and continue from there to the buyer's country.

Q03Which products do you work with?

Our core business is machinery, equipment and industrial materials: construction machinery, hydraulics, machine tools, textile machinery, electrical and electronic materials, engines and pumps, agricultural machinery, automotive spare parts, iron and steel, hardware, building services equipment, plastics and rubber, construction materials and security systems. You are also welcome to contact us about products not on this list.

Q04Why should I work with a transit trader rather than directly with the manufacturer?

The main reasons are a single contract and a single counterparty, several suppliers in different countries consolidated under one invoice, a payment structure (letter of credit, cash against documents) that balances the interests of both parties, and document checks carried out before shipment.

Q05Which payment methods do you work with?

Letter of credit (L/C), cash against documents (CAD) and advance or partial advance payment. The structure depends on the size of the transaction, the production lead time of the product and whether the parties have worked together before.

Q06Which delivery terms do you use?

Together with you, we choose the Incoterms rule that suits the structure of the transaction, most commonly EXW, FCA, FOB, CFR, CIF, CPT, CIP or DAP.

Q07Can I have a pre-shipment inspection carried out?

Yes. On request, quantity, quality and packing checks are carried out by independent inspection companies, and the report is added to the document set.

Q08What information do you need to prepare a quotation?

The product name and technical specifications (model, specification, drawing or photo), quantity, destination country and city, required delivery terms and target delivery date. If anything is missing, we complete it together before quoting.

Q09Is there a minimum order quantity?

It depends on the product. For machinery, a single unit is possible; for materials, the deciding factor is usually one container load or the manufacturer's minimum production quantity.

Q10In which languages can we communicate?

You can write to us in any of the languages in which our website is published, primarily Turkish and English; we will do our best to reply in the same language.

Do you have a requirements list?

Share the product name, technical specifications, quantity and destination country, and we will work out the sourcing options and shipping plan together.
